Production Engineer (May 2010)

Continuing growth at Torr Scientific has resulted in a vacancy for a newly created position as Production Engineer. Torr Scientific is a small high tech company specialising in the development and production of leading edge components for X-ray, analytical and vacuum instrumentation. The successful candidate will be a key member of the manufacturing group and will also have an opportunity to work with an innovative research and development team. This is a full-time position working 37.5 hour week, with starting holiday entitlement of 22 days per year, increasing to 24 days with length of service, and non-contributory pension scheme.

The Job:

  • Resolving process issues within clean room environment manufacturing, plasma and vapour deposition processes.
  • Assisting in the root cause analysis process for reviewing and resolving problems encountered during development, manufacturing and operation of the manufacturing systems.
  • Preparation and monitoring of resultant corrective actions.
  • Preparation and maintaining process and production procedures, production routings and bills of materials.
  • Develop and maintain a drawing control system.
  • Identifying and commissioning process changes to improve the repeatability and predictability of the various optical assembly and coating processes.
  • Working directly with R&D to develop test plans for quantifiably assessing the risks and benefits of product changes that need to be introduced to the manufacturing systems.
  • Tracking and monitoring of process and production yields.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Degree/HND level in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline and/or have a minimum of five years experience working in a manufacturing environment (ideally relating to the production of Ultra High Vacuum analytical instruments).
  • Experience in manufacturing process development, verification, process control and continuous improvement methods.
  • Skilled in methods and use of software for statistical process control, data analysis, problem-solving and design of experiments.
  • Solid Works or CAD experience
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of quality control and verification.
  • Experience with clean room processes such as Thin Film deposition and/or vacuum engineering.
  • In depth experience working as a manufacturing, process or production engineer.
